According to Lorelle’s Blog Herald Post “WordPress Wednesday News”, WordPress 2.3 (the next major version) is scheduled for release on 20 September 2007. WordPress 2.4 is due in December 2007. That’s a shed load of work for the next 4 months. I expect the wordpress.org support forum to be full of confusion about the change to tags from categories. As usual this doesn’t affect wordpress.com users.

There’s lots of other (obviously!) WordPress news in Lorelle’s post too. It makes for interesting reading if you’re more than just the casual wp user.

Lorelle also highlights a WordPress plugin for automatically updating the WordPress application itself. Sounds interesting, I might just have to give it a try!

  1. Thats cool, I will go check out that automatic update plugin :)

  2. I fixed the date, though I swear when I first researched this, it was August. Thanks for the catch.

Remember, tagging was already in the code, but they had a couple bugs they just couldn’t fix in time for the last release. I don’t think it’s going to be “that” difficult to get it in.

The exciting part is the new Admin Panels coming in 2.4. Can’t wait for that!

  3. Ooh! I must go read the 2.4 plans. New admin panels? sweet!

  4. New admin panels? Hmmm …

  5. More404 clients are already running on 2.3. Its pretty hot.
