4 attempts to get this damned image to post.  And then I forgot to put a ring round it.  Guys - It’s not a TIP.  It’s ADVERTISING.

A tip: Use the “B” button in the write window to make something bold.

An Advert: Be the master of your own domain.

See the difference?  Nice forum thread too.

While I am whining, for gods’ sake PLEASE give us back the ability to edit our posts on the forum.  Even a five minute window would be nice.

I am liking wordpress.com less and less every time I “visit”.  I might just have to stop “visiting”.  I think the only thing that brings me back right now is the morbid curiosity of what people are going to be moaning about in the forum.

And don’t even get me started on the Possibly Related Posts thing.  I think between TGA and the forum threads, the whole subject has been pretty much covered.  As if it needed explained, I have already opted out by ticking the box.

  1. I think it’s a softener for when they start serving third-party ads in the dashboard. Either way it smacks of desperation.

  2. Do you really think that will happen? I SO hope not!

  3. I’m sorry you don’t like the tip, it’s something a ton of users have asked about. The only way you would really know you can have a custom domain before was if you stumbled across the upgrade page or saw the announcement post over a year ago.

  4. Matt not seeing this as adverting doesn’t surprise me. We went through this with Browse Happy.

There are better ways of promoting features. The recent Possibly Related Posts mess shows that Automattic needs to work on how they get themselves across.

  5. Once again “lots of people requested it” because they most likely thought the feature would do what the plugins available for wordprress.org blogs do. Namely, the wordpress.com bloggers thought the only post links that would be displayed would be to their own posts within their own blog only.

    Matt Mullenweg lies again…

You know you would have thought by now that Matt Mullenweg would have learned his lesson about lying in public.  Guess not. Link Love this bit: “Anyone is welcome to participate.” I guess that means I’ll be getting my original wordpress…
