The title has nothing (much) to do with the post itself, I just really love the song.

If you’re not familiar with the song, It’s James Blunt.  Yes, some people hate him.  Me?  Some of the songs are pants but You’re Beautiful, 1973, High and Same Mistake along with a couple of others I can’t remember right now are simply awesome music.

Still none the wiser?  This is the video for Same Mistake.  Even if you hate watching video, hit the play button open a new tab (Firefox FTW!) and just listen.

Oh, by the way, I’m blogging here again today because I just can’t stop myself. Oh, and I forgot to pay for my hosting!

I have a bit a decision to make though. I might continue blogging here for the moment as, even with all the restrictions I rather like the fact that wordpress.com is just “here”. It doesn’t go away or fall over like my hosting does (twice in two months, once my fault, once not!). I will still keep Cornell Finch but might turn it into a photoblog on a new host.

So we’ve got WordPress Wank (in all the glory that is the naysayer of TGA), are there any blogs on wordpress.com that aren’t staff and regularly refute the shitty claims of all the negativity (and CPers) in the forum?

Should we have one?

I know we have http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/ - an awesome site for blogging tips, but that doesn’t necessarily sing WPs praises.

Or would we just be seen to be a fanboy and ridiculed for eternity?

Oh, and Zemanta is sucking trying to work with my wp.com blog right now. Works a treat with my self hosted blog though.

What’s this? 6 months after spitting the rattle, is he starting to use the wp.com again?

Well, maybe. For now I am just playing with the wp.com version of the upgrade to 2.5.

Doesn’t seem much different to the self-hosted version at the moment. And yes, I really like the self hosted version.

It’s nice that zemanta (firefox plugin) works with wp.com too. Although it seems to be broke right now as all I get is “Ooops, something went wrong!”

Now, how about a picture upload.

One that I grabbed very quickly from my desktop:

or at least, there would be if I could find the image uploader…
Found it! Not exactly obvious though is it! I think I would get used to it eventually, but it could really do with being more obvious.

Mini Clubman at Castle Combe 2007

I know that people have been complaining about the broken uploader. And no spell checker. And… and… and…

Well, that wasn’t too bad!

Now, all you dissenters:

Quit yer mankin’. It’s a major fecking upgrade. Things is gonna be broke. They’ve invested all this time in it and it ain’t goin’ back. Get used to it.

Oh, and how much do most people pay for this service? I pay nothing. You? Do you even have a right to moan? NO!

EDIT: The ONLY thing I think wp.com needs now is subscribe to comments. It has everything else and I refuse to use feedburner or and RSS reader for comments on every blog that I visit. Something like WLTC has it and I get loads of emails from one comment. Imagine if I picked up the RSS feed for comments on ICHC or that “white people like” blog. I would be sifting through too much shit just to see the reply to my one comment I would waste even more time than I already do…

Blah blah blah pending review test

I have WordPress 2.3 installed at my hosted blog. All was sweet. I created a new blog in a subdomain, again running 2.3.

I try to log in and get no response from the main site. Grr! Support ticket time.

I got a response a little while later. a 510 error message from the web server saying my account had been suspended.

Oooookay…..

An email arrived explaining that my main install of wp2.3 was running the web server’s resources at 60% (on a shared server) and it topped out the server meaning the server rolled over and played dead. The host suspended my account so they could get the server running again. Ooops!

My account has been “un-suspended” and I am able to log into the FTP.

I think what killed it was trying to insert a footnote into a post. I had been using the old wordpress footnotes plugin which worked beautifully with 2.x previously. With all the code changes to 2.3 the plugin didn’t like it. FTPd and removed MOST of the plugins I was using and all seems to be hunky dory.

I’m not going to re-enable WordPress (killed with a simple index.html file at the moment) until I can log into the cPanel and remove all the spare database tables that old plugins (UTW for example) had created.

By the way, can anyone give me easy instructions on converting UTW tags to WP native tags? None of my searching (about three hours worth!) has turned simple instructions. Ta muchly!
